Our Story
“Leaders at critical points of friction — making decisions, giving purpose and direction — drive success.”
That’s some of the best advice I received during my military career, and it became the motivation behind pursuing an MBA and founding Friction Point Consulting.
Over thirteen years in the Army, I’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of people whose talents extend well beyond their military skills: expert woodworkers, fitness coaches, equestrians, and more. Many of them would love to turn their “Passions to Profits” but don’t yet have the business knowledge to get there. They have the skill, the drive, and the will. What they’re missing is the how. Alongside them are small business owners with real growth potential who just need help getting past their own friction points.
As an Armor officer, I saw my job as forecasting problems, analyzing them, and finding solutions so my team could accomplish the mission. In 2024, I learned I would be medically retiring due to lung damage from years of operating heavy combat vehicles, and I quickly started looking for what my next mission would be. Friction Point Consulting is the answer. It’s how I help people realize their potential and build careers that bring them purpose, joy, and a paycheck.
We want to partner with aspiring founders and operating small business owners to maximize revenue through honest analysis and real collaboration. If that sounds like you, let’s connect; I’d love to talk through whether Friction Point can help you reach your goals.
About the Founder: Trevor Phillips
I am originally from a small town in southern Indiana named Mitchell. In high school I did not have a lot of direction but knew I wanted to join the Army someday. In 2013 I transferred from Wabash College to Ball State University and immediately enrolled into the ROTC program and enlisted in the Indiana National Guard. In college, I held leadership roles in ROTC and my fraternity Phi Kappa Psi while also discovering my passion for teams and organizational psychology. I graduated in 2017 and immediately commissioned into the Army as an Armor Officer. I have served in staff/operational planning roles, as a reconnaissance platoon leader, and most recently as a tank company commander. In 2024, I learned that I had developed asthma as a result of toxic fume exposure due to heavy combat vehicles and would need to be medically separated within a year. In 2025 I was able have one last ride with my tank company and deployed to Poland where I had time to apply to grad school and think about what I wanted to do in my next career. I returned back to the states in April of 2025, began my MBA with the University of Michigan Ross School of Business in August, and was medically retired from the Army on March 10, 2026 after nearly 13 years of service.
I currently live in Milwaukee, WI and spend my time exercising, completing my MBA coursework, and thinking about how to continue to make a difference after serving. Friction Point Consulting is my experiment that I hope turns into a flourishing business that helps people (especially veterans) find purpose in their professional lives.
